By the banks of Tungabhadra River, there was a city in medieval-era, known for it’s farms, markets, monuments and temples. One of the richest cities in India proudly flaunted it’s wealth and it’s love of arts and architecture by creating several monuments. It was Vijayanagara Empire, and the city is Hampi, currently located in Karnataka. This is truly a land of history and heritage! These group of monuments are the real attractions of Hampi.

Monolithic monuments:

There are outstanding monolithic-marvels!  Sasivekalu Ganesha is one of the best and is one of the major landmarks of Hampi.
This 8 ft tall Ganesha is carved out of a single block of rock(monolithic) and looks absolutely stunning!

Narasimha statue of Hampi is enormous! This is the largest monolithic idol in Hampi, built by Vijayanagara Empire. The statue is broken during Mughal attack. However, it still stands tall and remained one of the top attractions in Hampi till today.

There are more than 200 remarkable monuments in Hampi. From atop hill, can you spot the beautiful Virupaksha Temple?
